Even the most prolific blogger will sometimes have days where their mind is a complete blank. No matter how well you know a particular area or industry, you will sometimes feel like you have simply said all that there is to say. Keeping your blog updated with relevant, useful, new information, however, is vital for the success of your blog.

If you’re lacking inspiration, use these tips to get your creative juices flowing.

Go through your Back Catalogue

As time moves on and you develop as a blogger, a few things may happen. You may come up with new ideas, you may learn more information, and the world around you will certainly change. Simply because you wrote a post on a topic a year ago does not mean you cannot revisit it.

An SEO article from pre-Panda will be a very different beast to one you write now. Take a look through your previous posts and see if you can offer an update.

Have your predictions come true? Were you completely wrong? Have you changed your opinions?

Change your Focus

If you run a job-seeking advice blog you will certainly have written at least one post on how to structure a resume. However, on what kind of level did you look at it?

One topic can often be split into multiple sub-topics, all deserving of a blog post themselves. Rather than writing a single post on ‘Resume best practice’ you can write one general post and then go into specifics for military resumes, hospitality resumes, medical resumes and so on.

Then you can further focus on Army resumes, Navy resumes and so on, and even go even further with officer resumes, enlisted resumes and more. If you already tend to focus in more narrowly, then consider writing a few posts with a broader perspective.

Read Widely

There is nothing wrong with taking inspiration from the work of others, as long as you give credit where credit is due. Keep up with blogs in your niche, and when you find something interesting, link to it in one of your own posts, offering your own thoughts and unique perspectives.

Keep up-to-date on the news and always have a bit of your mind wondering – could I make a post about this?

Keep Notes

All too often you will be trying to think of a topic to blog about and remember you had a great idea – but completely forget what that idea was! Now you’re frustrated as well as having nothing to write about!

Keep a notepad document open on your desktop for an easy place to drop links and post ideas. Carry a notepad with you when you are out and about so you can jot down ideas when you’re away from your computer.

Don’t worry about making the idea perfect as soon as you think of it – you just need enough to jog your memory when you’re stuck.
