Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) is embracing cryptocurrencies through a partnership with Flexa. Chipotle will allow its customers to accept 98 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana.
Chipotle accepts crypto payments
Customers at Chipotle can start buying fast foods at any of the Chipotle restaurants in the US. The customers can make these payments through the Flexa crypto payments app.
Flexa is a digital asset payments platform that supports 98 different cryptocurrencies. Customers who want to use Flexa to make in-store purchases at Chipotle must download the Gemini and SPEDN apps that store digital assets.
Chipotle is planning to give away a 10% discount to customers who buy their next favorite item at Chipotle using any of the digital currencies supported by the Flexa application. The move is meant to attract customers to use digital currencies to make payments at a fast-food restaurants.
This is not the first time Chipotle is moving into the cryptocurrency sector. in 2021, the company announced a crypto giveaway to celebrate National Burrito day. At the time, it offered $100,000 worth of free burritos and $100,000 worth of Bitcoin to celebrate the event.
Chipotle also unveiled its own in-experience, currently dubbed Burrito Bucks, in 2022. The Burrito Bucks currency was launched on Roblox to support the launch of the Burrito Builder game on the same platform.
At the time of launch, Chipotle announced that it would be possible for players to trade Burrito Bucks for a free entrée code and participate at Chipotle restaurants. The fast food restaurant will be joining the list of more US companies embracing cryptocurrencies.
US businesses embrace crypto payments
The level of cryptocurrency activities in the US has increased significantly over the past year. The growth could be attributed to an influx of crypto social trading platforms, making it easier for more people to access digital currencies.
Several fast-food restaurants in the US have already adopted crypto assets. Earlier this year, Shake Shack announced that its customers would get a 15% discount on their purchases in the form of Bitcoin on any purchase made through Cash Card by Block.
Quiznos also announced a partnership with the Bakkt application to launch a pilot phase to endorse Bitcoin payments at selected Quiznos stores located in Denver. The co-founder of Flexa, Trevor Filter, said it was expanding its cryptocurrency payment options to make digital assets easily accessible to customers and companies.
Filter said that Chipotle would access more customers by giving them new payment methods to choose from. The customers of the fast food restaurant will also benefit from more payment flexibility, a speedy checkout process, and a seamless experience at their favorite fast food restaurant.
