Sharing photos or videos from your Facebook account with friends and family who aren’t on the platform can be tricky.
However, Facebook provides two straightforward methods to seamlessly send Facebook content to non-users.
Understanding these options allows you to easily include everyone in photo sharing, regardless of whether they have a Facebook profile.
Lucky for you, there are two ways you can send and share a Facebook picture or video with someone who is not on Facebook.
This article will cover how to make a Facebook photo public and how to create a direct secured link to share content specifically with non-Facebook users.
Set Photo or Video to Public
If a non-Facebook user is saying they cannot see the Facebook image you’ve just sent them, it’s likely you have your privacy settings set to a high level. Make sure to check your privacy settings by using the view as function.
If you’re not trying to compromise the visibility of your entire public profile for a single picture, you can set specific visibility options for the image to be seen by either the public, only friends, only you, custom, or any lists you’ve created.
Once you’ve adjusted the privacy settings of your images to public, you can simply share the URL of the photo or video with anyone, whether they have a Facebook profile or not. While this provides a simple option, make sure to consider if it’s truly a wise choice to make the photo or video public on Facebook.
Link the Photo or Video
The better option is to send a secured URL link. For this example, sharing the picture is done through the photo’s options menu that will appear at the bottom of the image by hovering over it with your mouse.
After selecting Options, and then “Get Link” you will be prompted by the following:
“You can use this link to share this photo with anyone, even if they don’t have a Facebook account. Anyone with the link will be able to see your photo.”
From there simply copy and paste the link to whoever or wherever you like.
I prefer this option of sending images or videos with non-Facebook users. This way you won’t have to spend the time modifying your privacy level settings or leave the photo visible to the public.
Security Considerations
When deciding how to share Facebook photos or videos externally, it’s important to weigh privacy and security considerations.
Making a photo fully public exposes it to everyone on the internet, which may not be ideal for personal or sensitive content. Consider whether such broad exposure poses risks related to identity theft, stalkers finding personal info, or other issues.
Additionally, double-check your general Facebook privacy settings.
Default settings tend to open up more sharing than expected. Be sure you are aware of and comfortable with your profile, photo tagging, and other sharing permissions currently enabled. Tightening down privacy levels takes just a few minutes.
Alternative Options
The methods described in this article focus specifically on sharing Facebook content with non-users.
However, you can also download photos/videos and then email or text them directly if preferred. This avoids any link clicking or Facebook access requirements for recipients.
However, it does require manual steps on your part anytime you want to share something.
Take Away
Let’s be honest, there will always be people who don’t use Facebook, and it’s easy to overlook that not all your friends might have accounts there. It’s still important to include them, and luckily, Facebook has made it much simpler.
It’s also important to keep track of your privacy setting, as sometimes Facebook’s guidelines change and allow default privacy visibility to show more than you’d think.
